On January 3 this year in Tashkent, the First international graduate's conference of the Umid Foundation was held, on the topic: New Generation of Personnel for Modernizing Uzbekistan, organised by the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation at the Agency for the Development of Public Service under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The purpose of the conference is to create a platform for regular communication between the Umid Foundation graduates and to organise an expert discussion of the results and further directions of large-scale reforms conducted under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The conference brought together over 300 Foundation graduates from 18 countries. Within its framework, the participants carried out active work in several thematic sections, including "Strengthening the investment climate at the centre of economic reforms".
The conference plenary session included a lot of reports by members of the government of Uzbekistan. Many of them have been educated in the past thanks to programmes at the Umid Foundation. Among the speakers was Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade S. Umurzakov, who took part in Umid Reunion 2020 and expressed confidence that the progress of the reforms implemented today will radically increase the living standards of the population and bring the country to a whole new stage of development. During his speech, he also noted that a strong, energetic, honest and loyal framework is the key factor for the successful completion of the tasks set.
In his speech, he briefly outlined the main areas of activity of the Ministry, its key goals and priorities, ongoing projects and initiatives. He further spoke about the possibility of utilising the country's best resources, namely, highly qualified specialists who have received education both abroad and in the best universities in the country, from investment and foreign trade spheres.
Joining the discussion, were fellows of the "Umid" Foundation and invited guests, such as O. Isakov - Deputy Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan, B. Karimov - First Deputy Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, D. Akhundjanov - Deputy Head of the EBRD Representative Office in Uzbekistan, A. Tour - Consultant at one of the largest banks in the world, Wells Fargo Bank, and M. Khusniddinov, a co-founder of Gateway Global.
The section participants focused on the development of a favourable business environment in the country and the reflection of progress achieved in this direction, which is reflected in a stable increase in the position of Uzbekistan in world economic ratings and indices.
In addition, the issues of creating an effective competitive environment for the development of priority sectors of the economy, phasing down the degree of monopolization of goods and services markets, increasing the transparency of business processes and strengthening the role of legal institutions in the regulation of economic processes in the country were discussed.
For reference: El-Yurt Umidi Foundation, created in September 2018 at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is the successor of the Umid Foundation, with the assistance of which from 1997 to 2003. 828 young specialists from Uzbekistan were educated at leading foreign universities and educational institutions.
