In the United Kingdom, university status is conferred by Her Majesty’s Government on institutions which meet criteria laid down by the Government’s ‘Privy Council’. Middlesex University was formally accorded university status on the 29th March 1993.

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) regulate all universities in the UK to ensure high-quality teaching, delivered to academic standards
that are recognised throughout the world. The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) is the official agency for the collection, analysis and dissemination of quantitative information about higher education.

The panel concluded that subject to the condition below:

  • the intended learning outcomes will be obtained by students, quality and standards will be achieved and the programme specification will be delivered

  • the Programme/Subject is current and valid in the light of developing knowledge in the discipline, practice in its application, and developments in teaching and learning.

Recommendations:

  • Update and revise marketing material to highlight UBI's unique selling points and incorporate student testimonials (7.3.7)

  • Work with Middlesex to enhance the visibility of the University to students and their sense of belonging to the Middlesex community (7.12.1).
